Earth Hour is a worldwide event designed to raise awareness about energy conservation and the impact of humans on the environment. In order to reduce our carbon footprint, we must reduce our energy consumption and create a culture where staff and students understand that even a small decision like turning off the lights can help us become more sustainable.
Therefore, we encourage you to tell your friends, professors, families, and even strangers about this world effort, and encourage their participation. Every gesture counts and even greater results can be achieved when the community comes together. In order to succeed in this endeavour, we suggest you get involved by doing the following things:
- Turn off the lights
- Unplug appliances and chargers. Some electronic equipment and appliances continue to use electricity even when they are turned off — this is known as phantom power.
- Update your facebook status, join social media groups
- Tweet, blog, and e-mail about Earth Hour
- Check out our Sustainable Practices page for more energy saving tips
Thanks for your participation!
This year, Earth Hour will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2017, from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
